Tim Rajeff must have had a lot of courage to disguise these wonderful fishing rods with such an, lets say, interesting rod colour. Amazing. It was difficult to take these rods seriously at first, given the "unique" blank colour and even less conventional thread wrap. We give Tim full bonus points for pure marketing courage.
Then we took these rods onto the river and coast. Even our most avid Switch Rod skeptics came home with big smiles.
The ECHO Switch rods are engineered with what we describe as a more forgiving action than is currently popular in many other Switch Rods; we find their action suits fly casters of all experience levels. We fish these rods with about all of our fly lines, including standard weight-forward salmon/steelhead lines, floating and sinking integrated shooting heads, Skagit Compacts, Scandi Compacts, Skagit Switches and Speydicators. We tip our lines with everything from straight nylon, tapered Spey leaders, floating and sinking Poly Leaders, and various lengths of T-8 to T-14 sink tips. They take it all.
The SR4106 and SR5108 (#4 and #5 weight respectively) Switch rods were introduced in early 2010. Last year we really put these rods to work on our local river and on the coast.These ECHO Switch rods, at 10’ 6" and 10’ 8", are so light it feels like lifting a 9’ rod, but at twice the pleasure factor when casting. .
The SR4106 and SR5108 load very easily and they make the entire "swinging fly" process a delight. If the the hatch comes on, try putting on a dry line and enjoy swinging damp flies or alternatively making straight up-the-river casts to float a dry fly. Load them with a Scandi Compact or light Skagit head and try them out on the coast for sea trout! These ECHO Switch rods deliver function and pure fishing pleasure in a big way! The length and light-weight of these rods makes them an amazing addition to our trout and light sea-trout fishing arsenal.
The SR61010, SR71010, and SR81010 (#6, #7 and #8 weights respectively) ECHO Switch are all 10’ 10’ powersticks: sure they are light enough to cast comfortably one-handed, but they really shine with a little assistance from the lower-hand on the cork below the reel.
Unlike trying to force a Spey cast with a "what was designed specifically as a one-hand rod", these Switch Rods are designed to charm from start to finish with a very light two-hand casting stroke.
