BalticFlyFisher - School of FlyFishing
Casting a fly line well is a form of art. Seeing an expert controlling 25 metres of line with little effort and seeing it whizz out in a straight line to land lightly on the surface of the water is like seeing magic.
The whole thing is governed by timing, feel, rhythm and the controlled release of energy.
Without good technique the fly fisherman or woman is at a disadvantage. Most of us learn from a friend or relative and any bad habits they have picked up are then passed on (I know I've been there!). By having tuition from a trained instructor those bad habits can be recognised and then worked on to eliminate them.

Qualifications:
Silja has a degree in teaching and a Masters degree in Dance and Movement Analysis; it therefore comes naturally for Silja to combine flyfishing with analysing movement. In her flycasting courses Silja always tries to teach her students the third dimension. Ever heard of the nexus between body, movement, space? Silja lives and teaches it.
In 2006 Silja became the first female certified instructor within the Federation of Fly Fishers in Europe.
Experience:
Being the daughter of a keen flyfisher, Silja naturaly started flyfishing at a very early age, stalking the creeks and rivers around Hamburg, Northern Germany. Flyfishing is her passion. She regularly fishes in Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Norway and Ireland being equally at home on a Trout river targeting Trout, Grayling or Sea Trout, on a Salmon River after Salmon and in the Sea where she flyfishes for Sea Trout, (salty) Pike, Cod, Pollock, Garfish and Bass.
When she is not actually fishing, Silja can be found teaching somewhere between Denmark, Germany and Sweden, giving casting courses within the Federation of Fly Fishers Denmark or instructing regularly at the Copenhagen Flycasting Club.

Guided Tuition ...
If you are planning to visit Denmark, Southern Sweden or Northern Germany and are up for a fishing treat, I am very happy to guide you to the fish. Depending on the season and your location we can fish the waters of the Baltic for lovely seatrout, salty pike or just have a fun day with a #4 weight rod going for the explosive garfish.
|
|
A typical day will start at around 08:30 and if you require some instruction will start with an in depth explanation about the lines and flies we use and how they work.
I will then take a look at your casting technique if you have some experience already, or start you off from the beginning. This generally takes around an hour and a half if there is one of you, or longer if two of you, and is always done with a piece of wool, for safety.
When you feel ready we will start fishing for real with a fly.
For lunch we normaly have a picnic on the beach.
In the afternoon we get down to some serious fishing, all along I will be on hand to make suggestions on how to tackle problems arising such as how to cope with adverse wind conditions. I will suggest which flies should work and where fish might be caught, much of this day is about reading the water and learning about fish behaviour and how you can find them. But above all we want to have fun.
